Two Ways

two paths

Psalm 1:4-6

The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Psalm 1 has clearly established that there are two ways that men can take in this walk of life. There is the path of the blessed, righteous man, and then there’s the path of the ungodly man. We’ve clearly defined that the Blessed man abstains from sin, sinful people, and sinful places. Not only does he abstain from sin, but he also delights in God’s Word and meditates on it day and night. In Ps. 1:4, we are introduced to the ungodly. The ungodly deny or disobey God. Different people, different paths, and different ends.

How many of you like to read the last chapter of the book first? By doing so, you know precisely how the story turns out. For a moment, let’s look at our life as a book. What would we find if we were to look at the last chapter to see what the end might be? There are two possible endings when this life is over. The saved inherit eternal life and live in a perfect, sinless place called Heaven, and those who are lost will die without accepting Christ and will spend eternity in Hell.

Just as in any book, the author holds the pen; he alone decides the contents of his book and how it will end. Friend, each of us hold the pen to this autobiography we call “Life.” God gives us the power to choose to go the way of the righteous or the ungodly. The tragicness of it all is that many will choose the path of the ungodly or their own way, not heeding to the warnings and instructions of God’s Word, and in the end, they will perish.

Psalm 1:6b

but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Proverbs 14:12

12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Not only will they perish, but we also see in Ps 1:6 that their way or the remembrance of their life shall perish. The life they lived will die with them. It was ruined and wasted.

Proverbs 10:7

“The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.”

Friend, have you read the last chapter of your life? If today was the last day you lived here on earth, do you know how it would end? If you are reading this devotion, you still hold the pen, and you still have the opportunity to trust Christ as your Savior. Today is the day of salvation!

2 Corinthians 6:2

2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
